Upward Bound
Salish Kootenai College Upward Bound is a college-preparatory TRIO program designed to prepare low-income and first-generation students for success in postsecondary education.
Each participant receives individualized instruction, academic advising, and access to enrichment activities designed to increase scholastic competencies and engage students in a process of personal development and discovery.
- Weekly school-based tutoring/mentoring sessions
- Regional college tours
- Quarterly enrichment activities
- College-preparatory advising
- ACT/SAT preparation
- Assistance with financial aid and FAFSA applications
- Quarterly stipends
- The six-week, residential summer component at Salish Kootenai College brings 50 students together from across the Flathead Indian Reservation
- The BRIDGE component offers seniors an opportunity to earn free college credit.
- The work-study component provides students hands-on experience in a career field of interest.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be...
- A citizen or permanent resident of the USA.
- A potential first-generation college student or from a low-income family.
- 13-19 years old and in grades 9-12.

Early College Pathways
Dual enrollment (DE) at Salish Kootenai College is an opportunity for high school students to continue participating in their high school curriculum while also taking some key, entry-level college classes. DE affords participating students a jump start on their college career, potentially shortening the time it takes to complete their degree program and reducing the cost of their education.

Gear Up
GEAR UP is a federal program that provides grants to education partnerships and states to support low-income students in preparing for and succeeding in postsecondary education. The program includes scholarships and focuses on increasing knowledge and preparation among students and families. Montana GEAR UP offers a variety of resources and services, including tutoring, mentoring, college field trips, career awareness, counseling, and parent education, to support freshman students from GEAR UP high schools in their postsecondary pursuits.

HiSET
The HiSET® exam is the only test Montana uses to measure high school equivalency skills in Language Arts: Reading/Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
The HiSET® Prep program of SKC’s Department of Academic Success is a five-step, hybrid preparation tool to help increase a tester’s chances of passing part or all of the HiSET exam on their first try.
